Amy Audet-Arcand is an art educator and textile artist. She received a BFA in Studio Arts (Painting and Drawing) from Concordia University in 2021, and an MA in Art Education from Concordia University in 2024. She has been teaching visual arts courses to youth at a non-profit organization for multiple years in Montreal, Canada. Her teaching and research practices focus on environmental conservation.
Research
In hopes of conserving our ecological system, she researches the societal need to be exposed to elements of the outdoors, and suggests paths to take to proactively embody environmental practices. She observes how an environmental practice consisting of growing, foraging, and harvesting indigenous plants of North America, primarily milkweed, can translate into an environmental art practice, as well as an environmental art education within the classroom. Audet-Arcand specializes in teaching students aged 4-8 within the extra-curricular and community sectors. She uses observations drawn from her teachings in order to study integrative education, art-making, and environmental conservatism.
She is captivated by work that is labour-intensive. She focusses on processing the fibre from plants she has grown and foraged, for textile art. The educator’s intention to focus on plants that are native to the land she has lived on her whole life is to concentrate her thoughts, energy, and time on what is here, what is from here, what is—from appearance—believed to be supposed to be here, which is linked to environmental conservatism (Scruton, 2012).
